I am Professor of Economics in the Economics Department of the University of Hamburg, Germany and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Economics and Finance of Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia.

My research is question driven and focuses on the interaction between macroeconomics, international economics, and applied econometrics. I aim to provide new and innovative perspectives on key questions facing societies. Most of my work also has some form of policy focus. Furthermore, I like to build formal theoretical models to capture the economic essence of the real-life problems involved. Such a focus requires adherence to the state-of-the-art in the field, and the readiness to validate the proposed analytical instruments empirically on the basis of replicable data.
